A Throwback Revisited: Neon Hue

Morning!

As the summer heats up, so do the colors I see in the streets. One throwback I've seen continuously this summer is Neon. I have a habit of calling it the "hi-liter" look, but I know better :) It's definitley a throwback , but it's also a throwback revisited because it's definitely what's hot right now.

The ultra-bright hues were something that most of us were subjected to as children, after all this was the "thing" in the 80's. My mom went neon crazy, since I was the "focus" of her neon madness, I has a neon green winter coat, and neon pink glow in the dark leggings, needless to say I'm glad I'm able to pick out my own clothes now.

Back then you could find neon in just about every piece of clothing and accessory possible. Not just shirts, shorts, and dresses but also hats, glasses, jewelry, shoe laces Everything! The most popular hues were pink and green but yellow was quite on the forefront as well.

Here are a few of my favorite neon picks for the summer!

Stone detail Flat Sandals $39.99, Lord & Taylor

My absolute favorite; nail polish!

China Glaze Towel Boy Toy $5.99;  Sally Beauty Supply, Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Rare $14; Sephora, Pop Beauty Radioactive Nail Polish $10;  Planet Blue

Tube Maxi Dress $34.99, Apple Bottoms ; Mossimo Kimono Sleeve Maxi Dress $24.99, Target

What's the best way to wear neon? However you like! I prefer to wear it a piece at a time instead of going from the head to toe look. But I also enjoy wearing a dark outfit and making the neon "pop" either in my shoe selection or nail polish.

Are you wearing neon this summer? If so, how? Do tell :)

Romper Room!

Morning!

Whenever I think of rompers, I think of playgrounds.

I also think of when I was younger, and I had to constantly pull down my shorts as I played - I just could not pull shorts or rompers off.

Fast forward years later...

I'm still not very much of a shorts girl - I've found it difficult to find a pair of shorts that fit me "just right". I finally found shorts that fit me decently, so I want to keep the good flow going and I'm now looking into attempting the romper.

Rompers are not just cover-ups for your bathing suit or for kids - if worn right rompers can be fun, and when paired with tights can even last you into the fall. The rompers I've found have come in all styles - there are those for folks that want to show legs and thigh and Bermuda style rompers for those who appreciate longer styles.

How to wear a romper?

  • Any way you want - which is why I think I'm feeling this style so much. You can wear flat sandals during the day for a casual yet cool look and then put wedges or heels on to dress it up at night. I'm envisioning sandals ; a long chair and colorful huge bag, (and we can't forget the sunglasses).

  • Pair a plain romper with patterned shoes or stand out jewelry, vice versa if the romper is a print.

  • Also, for those who hate wearing shorts because of the "rub" I would suggest wearing biking shorts or long line shapewear to eliminate that annoying feeling.

Have you seen any rompers? Do you wear rompers, what do you think of them?

In the Buff!

Morning!

Spring, (even though it felt more like winter this weekend!) always tends to bring out the airy, and "sweet" details in the season's trends.

One thing I'm seeing all over the place and starting to appreciate more are sheer and nude pieces; items that are more "rose" than pink, more ivory than white, even the soft oatmeal colors work this season. Take a look and tell me what you think :)

Crochet Charm $38, Missphit

Whimsy Bow Tee $38, LucieLu

Kariylynn Tunic $34, B&Lu

Boudoir Dress $148, Kiyonna

Kelsi Dagger Nude Wedge $148, Urban Outfitters

What I appreciate about this sheer trend is that most of the pieces I've found are about being transparent, thus showing things that most of us don't want to see. It's a sexy and subtle side, that when done right is fun to wear.

What I've been doing to "2 for 1" this trend is pairing it with soft colors (like a pale yellow cardigan) one time and then putting it with a bright color (red pencil skirt) the next go-round.

How do you go in the buff?

Time to shine for the Glitterati!!!

Good Morning!

It's something about the impending holidays that brings out the glitz in folks. Join the Glitterati this holiday season in some of the hottest clothes. Like most trends, it's best to wear it in doses - otherwise you run the risk of being a walking disco ball. Perfect for the holiday party or New Year's bash - it's your time to shine!

clockwise (l to r):
Sequins Racer, $39, Missphit, Vero Moda multi sequin dress $130, Dorothy Perkins, Teal Sequin Belt $13, Dorothy Perkins, Silver Sequin Flower Metal Headband $10, Torrid, All Over Big Sequin Dress $139, Asos, Sequin Holiday Pump $22.80, Forever21, Santi Clutch $173, Endless, Tina Sequins Party Dress $208, MonifC, Audrey Tunic $46, B&Lu, Sequin Flower Ring $3.99, Sassique Jewelry, Black Sequin Skirt $57, Evans, Adrianna's Magnetic Bracelet $19.95, Emitations, Dip-dye Dress $57, Missphit,Ladybug Sequin Pump $78.99, Heels.com

I think it's fun to play with glitter and sequins with other materials & prints- maybe a sequin tunic with dark rinse jeans and metallic chunky heels. Or try a sparkling dress with bold, bright solid color tights. For the faint of heart, go slow with an accessory or two -then build your way up if you dare. I'm gunning for the sequin miniskirt- I'm dreaming of pairing it with a ruffle sleeveless tank and my stilettos, FIERCE! Let's hope the mini doesn't sell out by payday.

FYI-Hint, Hint: If you haven't already you should join the Luvin' My Curves Facebook Fan Page
, the holidays are coming. (wink, wink)

The return of the Lumberjack....

Good Morning!

What's the one fall trend that you're seeing all over the place?

Plaid!

No longer just for the lumberjack B-girl outfit (Yo-Yo, Patra, etc), it feels like "plaid" is one of the "it" looks for the fall. What I love about the new "lumberjack chic" is that you can find prints beyond the traditional red/black or white/black combo - bold color combinations put into plaid have an amazing effect. Wear it in a dress, coat, a tunic with leggings- even a solid color outfit with plaid shoes- check it out!

Plaid Boyfriend Cardigan (click for the ingredients to the boyfriend look here) $31.90, Alloy

Green Check Coat, ~$107, Evans; Plaid Pea Coat, $59, Ashley Stewart

Like most prints plaid is best done in moderation, this is the perfect case of where too much of a good thing can be bad. Have fun!!

He's not just for companionship- the boyfriend-inspired look

Good Morning!!

Boyfriends, Friends, Homie-Lover-Friends whatever you call them; they're not just for companionship anymore...they're a part of fall's fashion inspiration! The boyfriend-inspired look has been around for awhile, but most of us usually just use his clothes until we can change into something of our own. Not anymore... ele
ments of this look have popped up all over the place as a fall trend!

I experimented with this look by accident the other day- I had on jeans, a cami and cardigan, I went for a pedicure and when it was over I didn't pull down my jeans-when I got home I walked past the mirror and said "Oh, I like this". So then I put on some heels to match and I absolutely fell in love with this look! Since then I've funked it up a bit- adding a cute belt over the cardigan to give me the illusion of a waist.... seriously this is a good look!

It's an easy look to pull together, making it an ultimate "effortless" look - here's the "recipe" :

One part boyfriend jean

Distressed Weekend Jean, Old Navy $36.50; Distressed Boyfriend Jean, Lane Bryant $69.50; Calvin Klein Gibson Jean, Nordstroms, $69.50

(Also look at Torrid's selection, here)

One part cardigan or blazer

Boyfriend Cardigan, Old Navy $34.50; Necessary Objects Open-Front Boyfriend Blazer, Macy's $79; Blue Boyfriend Cardigan, Evans 28 GP

One part chunky heel or flat

Dollhouse Tan Simone Heel,Torrid $92; Sassi, Nine West $79.99; Steve Madden Marlene PlatformPump, Endless $76.90

Add cami or tee of your choice, blend with accessories & mix well! Walk out the door, & Enjoy!

If you like to keep it comfortable then this look is worth trying- it's a cute mix of feminine & masculine - allowing you to keep it basic but then letting you play with colors and accessories... Think this is look you'll be willing to try out? (at least in the mirror?)

What's In: A Passion for Purple

The must-have for fall is the color of royalty; Purple. This definitely works in my favor because purple is my absolute favorite color and this season is just an even better excuse to get some more purple pieces. Walk past any store's display and you're bound to see some shade of this flattering color, either alone or blended in with other fall colors.

Take some time to play with purple -it's a color that is flattering for all skin tones given you wear the right shade. From dark raisins, rich plums, medium violets, light lavenders and pale lilacs, you can't go wrong- there's a hue that's just right for you.
