Dress Me! All White Party

Happy Friday!

It seems like I'm not the only one with an "All White Party" to attend before the summer comes to an end. Diana from Long Beach, CA writes: "Hey J, there's an all white party coming up and I have no idea what to wear! I only have white t-shirts and blouses and can't find anything in my size, that's cute & white! Any ideas?"

Dressing for a white party can be difficult if you feel like there aren't any viable options around. It's interesting that white clothing is always difficult to find around this time of year- so my suggestion is if you see something in white during any other time of the year- GRAB IT! because you never know. No worries though,

I've done some searching for you, let's take a look...

... before I forget- remember you can keep the outfit purely white, add a hint of color with silver, or make your outfit POP! with bright colors in your shoes & accessories. Have fun with your outfit and have a great time at the party!

Now, back to the clothes!

Backing Away From Black!

(Note: Thanks for all the well -wishes for graduation. I'm so excited to say that as of Sunday (5/18) I'm Ms. Me, J.D!!!!)

Lately I’ve found myself on this personal crusade against the color Black. Now I believe that “black is beautiful” & appropriate in some situations however I’ve found that women (especially us plus-size women) sometimes use black clothing as a security blanket, instead of a base color. I’d like to know what does black clothing do for you and do you admit to sometimes relying on black too much?

I admit that black is a slimming color, but you can get the same effect from the right foundation (Read "Bottom's Up") . It’s also a popular business attire color but so is grey, navy blue and depending on the industry brown.. What keeps us from relying on all black?

I look at my closet; and I see that as I’ve grown up and grown more confident in myself I have more color. Yes, I have the basic black staples, black dress, black pants, black business suit, etc. However I’ve phased out of wearing all or mostly black and infused my closet with color.

I like the way bright colors bring out my skin tone, make my eyes brighten up and just has an
amazing ability to illuminate my mood. There’s nothing wrong with black, but perhaps maybe it’s time to infuse your closet with some color…

My colorful picks:

(from l to r): Ariana Top- Benina and Lu $32, Missphit Twill Strap Jacket in Yellow $56, Alice Trixie , Ariello Kimono Tunic $295 available at Salon Z, Orange Leather Strap Dress - Belle Avenue $42.99.
