International Chic: Caribbean Fashion Plus Week

"The focus of the Caribbean Fashion Plus +Week 2012 (CFPW 2012) is to create a fashion-forward environment for the Caribbean within which the needs of the plus-size (ladies) and big-and-tall (gents) communities of the world can be served." - Caribbean Fashion Plus Week

So the rumblings during Trinidad Carnival WERE true... there would be a Caribbean Fashion Plus Week this year!!!

The majority of Caribbean women are not a size '0' yet the access to stylish options for plus size women in these areas have always been extremely limited. In recent years, the demand for options and awareness has grown - and now the 1st Caribbean Fashion Plus Week will be held in Trinidad on October 31- November 4, 2012.

The goal of the 2012 Caribbean Fashion Plus Week is to encourage vibrant networking between the creative producers, the buyers of plus apparel and the media, and to support the on-going process of building a more prominent plus size fashion industry in the Caribbean with greater local, regional and international access to comfort, style and quality fashion industry products.

Designers of all countries are invited to bring their creative and innovative designs to the Caribbean by showcasing on ‘Runway Caribbean’ – the final fashion event. The Caribbean plus size consumer market is vast and under explored and can be a lucrative business opportunity for the designer with foresight, initiative and drive.

The entire plus size fashion week runs from October 31st to the grand finale "Runway Caribbean” on November 4th  2012 at the Cascadia Hotel, St. Ann’s, Trinidad. If you are a clothing designer  you are invited to take on the Caribbean challenge of designing a full plus size line for CFPW 2012! To express your interest, email the CFPW at caripsfw@gmail.com with the subject “Fashion Designer”. The deadline for sending in your information is 31st August 2012, 4:00 p.m.

OOTD: Sista-Friend Date Night

Morning!

I have been trying to see the musical FELA! ever since it came to Broadway in 2009. When it left Broadway my feelings were hurt - someone must have heard me because the musical came back to the big White Way for 32 performances that started earlier this summer. When I found out the good news I bought tickets immediately for me and one of my oldest "sista-friends" so we could have an overdue night out.

I decided to be bright and wear my French terry jeggings from Lane Bryant, they are super comfortable and I just love the color. I put it with this Pure Energy top that I found on Target online. When I bought the shirt I planned to wear it with white jeans but I think it goes well with these jeggings too.

I decided to opt away from too many accessories and just focus on the color. My earrings are from one of the local markets in Cape Town,South Africa and my purse is from the depths of my closet (aka I don't remember). Lastly, I purchased these super comfortable silver sandals from the Avenue - I really love the jeweled embellishments in the front; it makes them stand out.

Enjoy!

Dress Me: Street Festival Chic

Morning!

The summer is made for street festivals - I love being able to slow down for a moment perusing the different sights, scents and sounds that they all offer. Many of my summer weekends are spent walking through a festival either on purpose or accidentally (many of the fairs go unpublicized). I also love checking out the individual styles that I always come across from the multitude of people that attend the festival too. When I got this question I was more than happy to answer, take a look !

"I've been asked to attend a street festival as a date - I don't know if I'm reading too much into it but I don't know what to wear. Any suggestions? "
  - Allison

Fair question Allison, the fact that it's a date has put you in a sort of "mode" that you are questioning what you might normally wear. I think all of us have done that. My simple advice to you - keep it simple. Street Fairs have alot of well, everything and you won't know what you two will get into. Be comfortable, you don't want to wear anything that you will be constantly be pulling or tugging on throughout the day. In the same vein make sure your clothes still flatter your figure.  You could always do the "old faithful" (tshirt and shorts) but like you said it's a date and you want to step it up a bit, right? An absolute must is comfortable shoes - street festivals are lots of fun, but you won't notice if you're concentrating on your aching feet. Hopefully the couple of pieces below will spark some ideas for your street fair date :)

Enjoy yourself!

I shouldn't want anything but I do... What J is Jonesin' For: July

Morning!

The other day I got a sale email, I forwarded it to my friend with the message saying "Sweet Jesus take the wheel"... her response:

I think all the months of holding back and NOT shopping to save for the wedding has caught up with you

I laughed and thought - she's right!

I HAVE been holding back.. and maybe it's all the life changes in the past couple of months that have prompted this whirlwind shopping spree that I have been on. (the mailman knows I'm back in NY)

I shouldn't be jonesin' for anything considering all the shopping that I've been doing.. but I always want more so here we go!

Flats are my friends.. I love the color! (I guess I'm cheating because after lusting after them for weeks, I finally bought them for a steal, Macy's coupons are trouble)

Nine WestOur Love Flats in Orange Rio Print, Macy's Brasil $59

I love this the hi-lo look of this top, I think it would be a great addition to my summer wardrobe.

Dip Back Tank Top, Curvaceous Boutique, $29.99

My students loved to make nicknames for me..  "JTucks" seemed to be the one that stuck and then after the wedding it changed to "JBiz". Since I'm moving on to a new school in the Fall, a small reminder of the kids who on the bad days were a reminder of why I love what I do can't hurt...

Personalized Wire Name Ring, Jesslyn Lal on Etsy, $12
I'm the same one who can't do shorts but I want a jumpsuit...

ASOS Curves Exclusive Playsuit, $29

Continuing my love for all things bright

Joma Ankara Skirt, Dear Curves, ~$78

What are you jonesin' for??
