These are the times you just shake your head and wonder
"What the $#% were you thinking?"
When I saw this....
I instantly thought of this...
The Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids that attempted to starts it's media machine last week. Instead of a grand reception, the $350 sneaker was faced with harsh criticism from those who saw the design as ignorant, racist and inconsiderate. When I first saw the shoe I thought it was a rude joke, but when I learned that this was indeed real, I was incensed.
Did the marketing team do any research? Where is ( or is there) any social responsibility, especially when you know your demographic?
The sad part is that there are people that I know that would spend $350 to be shackled all in the name of style. When I spoke to my dad about this, he replied "it's bad enough boys want to walk around with their pants hanging off their butt, but now they want to wear shackles too? They should walk themselves to jail and turn themselves in for stupidity!"
As of yesterday, the shoe has been pulled and it looks like it won't be available for purchase. Dang, Adidas your shell toe's and I have been down for a long time, but I don't know if I can support a company that thought this was ok.
Read a bit about it here from the NY Post here and a video from CNN below.
What are your thoughts on this sneaker design?
