OOTD: Climate Confusion

I'm back on this side of the world..... which means that soon enough my summer vacation will come to an  end. :(

I mentioned in a previous post that this time of the year is winter in Cape Town - I left a NY Summer for a Cape Town winter... ughh. The winter there doesn't call for snow boots (in my opinion, although I saw many) but hey, do you. Considering that I experienced the brutality of a New England winter this weather felt more like a brisk fall day to me. I was too "weather ignorant" to bring sweaters and felt like I could successfully hack it in t-shirts, blouses, jeans and flats.

I was partially right.

Looking through my pictures as I fight off the worst jet lag ever, I started to notice that considering the weather here in NY I would have been a hot melted pool of a mess if I wore this out here, but in Cape Town my outfits were looked at with some confusion because everyone else was bundled up in sweaters and the like. I guess you could call my outfits "climate confused" . I also noticed that I kept my accessories minimal, I admit that's laziness.  Take a look:

1st Look: I ordered this Kmart LYS Floral Print Belted Vest early in the spring but never wore it until a visit to the South African winelands of Franshhoek for a special dinner with friends. I put it together it with a simple cami, a  pair of skinny jeans and my special black pumps. I love the feel of the vest, it flows and covers up my mid-section while the belt gives me shape.

2nd Look: Out for a  special lunch with my special someone. I'm prone to wearing dresses but with the fierce wind that day I swiftly changed my mind. The pants are the most comfortable slim pants from Just My Size (seriously!) I paired it with this lace yoke blouse from Beverly Drive (plus size line carried at Sears) that underwhelmed me on the rack but I fell in love with once I tried it on. I love the back detailing because it gives an unexpected flair and the fit is excellent.

3rd Look: One of my last nights in Cape Town - instead of going out I stayed in and cooked a special traditional meal for my friends and family. Even though I was in the kitchen, I couldn't help but to dress up a little. This print tunic from Evans, Moto Zip hem leggings from the Avenue and my flat boots from Torrid. I wasn't too sure about this tunic but it fits like a dream and the tie-back accents my waist and bust; I don't do leggings often but these are uber comfy and I can see myself grabbing for them this fall.

I had a great break and though it's nice to be back home, I'd take the briskness of Cape Town for the heat and humidity anyday. :)
