OOTD: Since you asked.....The Tatum Dress

After the FFFWeek post.. I received a good amount of questions about the Tatum Dress from Lucie Lu. I had a review planned, but I didn't post it quick enough, here goes :)

When I 1st saw this dress , I wasn't sure how it would fit on me, but I was open to try it. I've learned my lesson that just because you're not 100% sure about a piece doesn't mean you should write it off. So when Lucie suggested the Tatum dress for me I was excited to try it out. When the package arrived, I ripped it open right at the door! ( I love clothes, and I love getting packages, ha!)

From the pictures the dress looks like it could be a structured material, but it actually flows. The zipper adds a mechanic feel to the dress, and if you want an added sex appeal should you let the zipper not go all the way up. The Tatum dress has pockets, which has been hard for me to find this summer. It also does wonders for my waistline, all while the full-skirt skims areas that I might want to conceal. One last thing I love about this dress, the length it just right. I am often concerned about the length of my skirts and dresses from the back view, because of my "assets", I didn't have to worry about it this time. EFFORTLESS!

I really look forward to wearing this dress again and again, as I can see this being one of my summer staples. The fact that I can wear flats for a casual look, only to change it into a simple glam look with heels makes me swoon for this dress even more.

Throughout the day, many ladies of all shapes were asking me either where I got my dress or if my dress was the same dress on one of the flyers they received (with a discount code)- one lady expressed that she would not have thought the dress would look that good in person. Regardless of size, I think this dress can be universally flattering.

Because I loved what the dress did for my shape, I kept the accessories simple - blue flats and seed earrings that I received in South Africa.

BET Awards and Huge Premiere

And so my summer series in New York is officially on....

Jill Scott & Maxwell concert at MSG

This past weekend I went to the Jill Scott & Maxwell concert at MSG - Jill Scott represents for the curvy ladies all the time and is not afraid to show her curves or tell the naysayers what's really good! I wish everyone had the kind of body confidence that she exudes! Maxwell was great too - he held his own, making sure to catch the underwear that was thrown at him - good times!

Last night I made sure to catch the BET Awards, I'm not the biggest fan of BET, however I wanted to see the MJ Tribute and Prince so I got sucked into the madness. Plus, I was excited to see what Queen Latifah would wear for the show.

Insert *sideeye* here.

I wasn't feeling the shoes with the dress, but then it all made sense when she changed her look on-stage.

Like some of you, I was ready for the Queen to show her stuff - instead for most of the night decided to take a trip down "Movie Role Costume Lane". She donned costumes from Chicago, and Hairspray, but my favorite costume changes of the night...

CLEO!!! (even though T.I kept saying Khloe... he's forgiven)

and how we all were introduced to her .... Ladies First, All Hail The Queen!

I must say, her last outfit of the night was beautiful, a white off -shoulder dress with a stunning lucite statement necklace. I've been looking all over for a picture, but to no avail.

What did you think of the BET Awards?

Tonight is the premiere of Huge starring Nikki Blonsky... will you be watching? I'm going to try to catch it, should be interesting.

My Recap of Full Figured Fashion Week

Good Morning!!

As I'm sure you all know by now Full Figured Fashion Week was a huge success! With coverage from The New York Times, NY Magazine, and Vogue Curvy among so others, folks are finally taking notice of what we've known all along "Curves are In"!

The Panels on Friday were jam-packed - I really appreciate having a day in the midst of all the fashion in which attendees can talk about what's really going on. I think we as a plus-size community realize just how important it is to love the person underneath the clothes, as well as have a better understanding of how designers, retailers are able to cater to us.

For the Finale on Saturday, the vibe was just right. Each designer represented for their line and the models included notables such as Mia Amber, Anansa Sims and Joanne Borgella. New to the finale this year were the Full Figured Fashion Week Awards which recognized the best designer, fit model ,blog, print model, magazine and icons in the industry.

Full Figured Fashion Week 2010 Day 1

"Every girl that has a dollar will spend that dollar."
~Gwen DeVoe
Executive producer of Full Figured Fashion Week

No truer words could be spoken.

The energy in the room was high, it was exciting to see both old and new faces all come together last night for the Opening Night Runway Showcase of Full Figured Fashion Week™ 2010. Like last year it was a full house and I was so happy to see my fellow Curvy Collective members, and met some great fashionable curvy ladies who came out to support. Last night's show featured 7 lines, ranging from the ready to wear to the one of a kind - it was the perfect beginning to a great week ahead.

Trendy, ready to wear and affordable. If you don't know Pure Energy is available at Target.

Sophistication in lace and cuts that flatter, Kiyonna hit the stage to show off their line.

If I had to judge by audience reaction the line that got folks the most excited, it was definitely this line. Funky, edgy but still classy - HUGE KUDOS!

Let's all say it together "Goodbye Black Winter Coat." Featuring outerwear for the plus-size woman, this line featured distinct cuts and vibrant colors - another crowd favorite.

WHO KNEW??!! If the collection that was shown last night is any indication Just My Size is definitely on the come up. More than just activewear, underwear and hosiery.

Maybe it was the runway music but the first word that comes to mind when I think of this line is "whimsical". This line went through time with colorful bold dresses to classic silhouettes.

Jaspher Knowles

Coming in from the Bahamas, the Jaspher Knowles collection closed out the show - different looks but I enjoyed them all.

For more of your viewing pleasure - there's a great slideshow courtesy of Rueters (here) and video of each showcase (here).

I'll be tweeting as much as possible during the rest of the week's events, and make sure to keep on the look out for more video and pics!
