August is usually when I'm dreading going back to school so I'm often looking for clothes that are both work and school appropriate because there was no real reason to look for anything else. However this year, I don't have to go back to school, YIPEEE!
This August I'm jonesin' for a makeover of sorts- I'm continually stepping out of my comfort zone which is looooong overdue but I havn't quite stepped out completely. I'm not a creature of habit, I'm actually moreso a creature of comfort. These days I'm looking for different, edgy pieces that I wouldn't normally wear but I'm willing to at least try.
For instance, this weekend I wore a dress that was shorter than my usual- I swore it was too short in the back but my BFF said it was just right. I had to keep reminding myself - "step outside the box"....my past insecurities has made it easy to fashionably lounge in my comfort zone.
I've been playing alot with different accessories, different cuts - stepping out can be an uncomfortable process, but like I've stated before developing style is all about stepping out of that zone and seeing what's up so that's what August is about - a complete overhaul and ushering in the result. Let's take a look...
You know my affinity for funky rings,
EYE SEE YOU Sterling Silver Ring, The Flaming Pearl $68
I would usually look at these shoes & tell myself "nope" but these shoes are soooooo HOT!, and because they are platforms I'm confident that I could probably dance a couple more tunes than usual. At $599 it's not happening - but I can imagine, right?
Giuseppe Zanotti Platforms, Zappos $599
This dress just screams "I'm Fab, and if you didn't know now you now" - in the past I've shied away from one strap pieces but this piece from Jibri is a definite exception....
Graphic Print One Strap Dress, Jibri $122
I will no longer automatically say "It's not my style" when I see something on the rack, instead I will try on everything and make my decision from there. Colored Jeans included... I've seen it on others and wonder why I never got a pair.
Back Flap Pocket Jean, Svoboda $98
...and because I remain true to being effortless and comfortable... yet fashionable - an ultra versatile cardigan.
Purple Cap Sleeve Cardigan Wrap, Jen's Fashion Plus $17.99
However, I'm NOT jonesin' for this... I mean we thought apples on the bottom were bad.. but the entire name stretched across ,....for $165 and it's not even your own name... no thank you!
Ed Hardy Silver Logo Bootcut Jean, Torrid $165
last but not least... some of you were asking where you could find a maxi dress with sleeves- what about this?
What are you jonesin' for this month?

I like the fact that you're so real and honest on the blog. There is nothing wrong with loving clothes but also being reluctant sometimes to go off the deep-end, especially when you're a lawyer too. And yes, you stay comfortable even when you're making changes.
I need those shoes on my feet they are fierce.
I like the idea of stepping out of your comfort zone. That's something I need to start doing. When I'm not at work, my "comfort zone" is jeans/sweats, t-shirt, and sneakers/tennis shoes. Very basic lol. But I think I'm going to start stepping out and trying new things. You gotta tell me where you got your dress from in the first 2 pics. That dress is beautiful! Might not look the same way on me but hey, it's worth a shot!
I am totally luvin' the dresses. For me, the makeover came in the form of hair. Most stylists give me the most conservative hair styles because I look so conservative during the week (talk about a comfort zone). I tried a new stylist and got a spicy spike that could still be worked in any environment, including church. So I am totally feeling you, because the look made pull some out some of my not so conservative clothes, shoes, explore vibrant accessories which reveal my truly saucy nature! Congratulations on stepping out my sista!
Congratz for stepping outside the box!! Welcome! It's nice out here isn't it.
What I'm 'jonesin' for is a new hair style - I did jet black in 08-09 but I think I'm ready to go back to my auburn - wild and funky curls.
Also, high-heels! I usually don't wear heels b/c I'm already 6 ft tall, but these suede botties are calling my name for the fall.
P.S. your dress was SUPER-CUTE!!
You look amazing in that dress! I am envious, it's gorgeous. I really liked all the pieces you picked out, and definitely agree with you that those horrid Ed hardy pants must go!
I'm lovin your blog :-)
