Sideye: PETA
Word PETA, tell me how you REALLY feel?
You pride yourself on being unabashed & in your face- so ready to make a point to promote your values. You've gone to the extreme to promote animal cruelty, vegetarianism, and the fur trade amongst other issues. HOWEVER, you went too far with your ad in Jacksonville, FL.
I'm livid! Your disrespect of overweight people is NOT how you promote vegetarianism in fact it's the perfect way to piss people off, lose support and have your message get convoluted in the madness. Let's be honest, your ad is not going to convince someone to become a vegetarian- it's only going to make someone give PETA the meanest sideeye. How dare you call overweight people WHALES but then still want everyone to support your cause? How does that work, I would love to know.
Your weak PR justification- "A new PETA billboard campaign that was just launched in Jacksonville reminds people who are struggling to lose weight -- and who want to have enough energy to chase a beach ball -- that going vegetarian can be an effective way to shed those extra pounds that keep them from looking good in a bikini." (Blank Stare) Are you kidding me? You call me a Whale and then want to tell me to go vegetarian because then and only then I'll be a smaller whale that can fit into a bikini?
But I guess you all love the controversy, kind of like the girl in high school who knew people talked bad about her but didn't care because it was a means of getting attention. Only difference PETA, is that you have an agenda and as long as you create ads that disrespect people your agenda will never be fulfilled. Trust me on that one. This ad is misguided because it leads a naive person to believe that vegetarianism is means to lose weight, I know PLENTY of overweight vegetarians, what do you have to say about that? How can you call overweight people whales but then turn around and have the PETA acronym contain "ethical treatment" so you think this ad treated humans ethically? In addition your mission statements boasts 2.0 million members,I bet there are some members that are overweight- so are they whales too? This is IRRESPONSIBLE, OFFENSIVE and MISLEADING!!
PETA, your thought process is below elementary level on this one, take the ad off, go back to the drawing board with your head hung down in shame and try again.
Sincerely,
LMC
Do you agree or disagree with PETA, what do you think of this ad?

That is the worst ad ever! We need to write a letter for real!
I think your "ethical treatment" comment was spot on.
For some reason, while we crusade for politically correctness for so many groups-- rude and insensitive comments against overweight people is still okay.
shameful.
the billboard is a cruel comment about obesity, you can be a vegetarian and be overweight too, so this doesn't make any sense, instead it makes fun of big people, who already have lots of pressure from society.
I am giving them some epic side eye. They claim to be promoting compassion for all animals, but exclude compassion for humans. I keep on thinking about http://fathealth.wordpress.com/ and all the fat people denied medical care. Then again, given that PETA used KKK imagery in one of their campaigns, their fat hate is unsurprising.
very very very bad taste. There has always been something about the way Peta push their agenda that I have never liked.
whoever approved this advert has some serious issues.
Fat vegetarian weighing in, haha.
Great post.
I'm just so disgusted by their ad I really want to smack one of them. How dare they. I hope every friend neighbor and relative of a Peta supporter lets them have it.
