Let's Get Away... What's your Airport Style?

Good Morning!

Anyone going on a weekend trip or a final summer vacation before Fall starts?

When I was younger, I never understood why people would dress up to get on a plane- I stuck to my jeans, sneakers and oversized hoodies, but as Ive traveled more I've seen that "Airport Chic" appears to be it's own fashion subculture. Of course, you still see folks in Adidas flip flops with graphic print pajama bottoms and college sweatshirts, but you also see women in 4" heels walking through the terminal as if it's a catwalk.

Ngozi asks
"I've been traveling alot lately and it seems like I'm out of place, I want to be comfortable but I also want to look chic, what would you suggest I wear to the airport?"

Ngozi, there is no right or wrong way to dress for travel- in my opinion it all depends on how long the flight is going to be and if there are any layovers involved. For me, a cardigan, a flowy blouse, flats and jeans are my travel staples. It's a simple outfit, yet it allows for me to easily go through security checks, run to my connecting flight and account for the various temperature changes on the flight. It's also an effortlessly feminine look that you can easily jazz up with a long necklace or chic earrings.

For long flights, I recommend a cute lounge outfit- I remember when I traveled to South Africa- and saw Kevin Liles and LL Cool J at the D.C airport- here I was looking a mess with my hair wrapped and in yoga pants- I combed my hair out with the quickness for a photo opp and vowed that NEVER AGAIN would I look like that in an airport. You never know who you may see at the airport (either for networking or personal), so you want to make sure you look somewhat presentable.

Last but not to be forgotten is the Carry On - especially now since airlines are charging to check-in luggage. I'm the worst person to pack, but since they are charging folks by the bag, I'm giong to have to learn how to pack effectively, quick fast! I found some stand-alone cute compact luggage that I can throw overhead...

I do pajamas when I go to the airport :( You called me out. I do find that I don't get taken as seriously and I guess an upgrade in the wardrobe department when traveling wouldn't be so bad.
