On the Scene: Curves & Cocktails

Good Morning!

It was a beautiful weekend, I hope that you all enjoyed the weather in your neck of the woods.

As I've mentioned before, this weekend Belle Noir Magazine hosted "Curves & Cocktails: The Ultimate Night Out for Curvy Girls". This event promised to "cater to your every curve" and it was no disappointment. From the minute I walked in the door, I was greeted by smiles, excitement, bumping music and a swag bag!

There were alot of ladies ( & gents) there; enjoying the Bra Fittings, having their fill of the hors d'oeuvres & cocktails (Curvytini anyone?!).

The vendors were great, but I had to stick to my recession guns and not buy anything. I'm proud of myself although I wanted to buy a bit of everything; the handmade cards by Collective Elements, toys from the Booty Parlor, personal shopping services from Women of Dimension, to die for accessories from Yania Creations & L'elephant Rose, plus sexy clothing from Qristyl Frazier Designs including that dress I was Jonesin' for earlier this month. My affinity for bags was satisfied by B's Purses & Sevy by Severe Erase and last but not least author of must-read "A Man in Transition" K.L was there & had me cracking up.

The event also included an awards ceremony- honoring those have made strides in the plus size community. The deserving recipients were plus model Christina Mendez, plus model Mia Amber, Plus Model Magazine Editor Madeline Figueroa-Jones & a surprise award to Denise Best of Blissful Elegance Events. Each woman gave an acceptance speech that was warm, heartfelt ( I'm a softy, I shed a tear), empowering & definitely put folks on notice that events like Curves & Cocktails are just the very beginning...folks we're on the cusp of some major changes!

I was in love with the energy in the room; how wonderful is it to walk in and have everything be about YOU. When I explained it to a friend she equated it to a Shecky's event for full figured women and then chastised me for not inviting her, size 6 and all. (gotta love the envy!)

Ms. Aja B. of Belle Noir put on a wonderful event, and I applaud her for all of her efforts - Saturday was great and I hope that everyone supports Curves & Cocktails when it starts it's nationwide tour. Belle Noir is doing great things for us curvy ladies, and this inaugural event was a great sign of what happens when we all come together.

lovely ladies enjoying the day!
