The movie "Notorious" comes out today, so I decided it would be the perfect time to take a trip down fashion memory lane....
"Do You Remember?"....... the Coogi Sweater? (ahhh, yes I took it back!)
What were the elements of Biggie? Cristal, Dark glasses, Puffy bouncing around him screaming "Bad Boy- take that!" , Wallabees, Kangol hats, and the Coogi sweater! I didn't get the sweater at all, it was a Cosby Sweater on acid , however you have to admit that we all knew at least one person who shelled out the money to get one.
Founded in 1969 by Australian designer Jacky Taranto, Coogi was worn by celebrities like Bill Cosby and Muhammad Ali, but it wasn't until B.I.G's "One More Chance" that the label blew up and hit the urban market.
Capitalizing on the momentum of B.I.G's endorsement Coogi then rolled out the sweater dress- same tripped out design but for some reason a bit more bearable.... granted these dresses didn't come in plus sizes but I had many a relative that squeezed into them. (Coogi now has a small plus size line which is modest compared to the sweater. (look for it at Dr. Jays) From "Hypnotize", to "Big Poppa", and even in "One More Chance", B.I.G made sure that Coogi was on our mind.... here's one of my favorite hits, where were YOU when this song came out?
EVERYBODY was in that video!
There are alot of "Notorious" throwback parties going on this weekend, along with Inauguration celebrations- whatever you choose -have fun and stay warm. If you're in a hot spot- send some heat this way :)~Luvin' My Curves... notoriously!!
