Backing Away From Black!

(Note: Thanks for all the well -wishes for graduation. I'm so excited to say that as of Sunday (5/18) I'm Ms. Me, J.D!!!!)

Lately I’ve found myself on this personal crusade against the color Black. Now I believe that “black is beautiful” & appropriate in some situations however I’ve found that women (especially us plus-size women) sometimes use black clothing as a security blanket, instead of a base color. I’d like to know what does black clothing do for you and do you admit to sometimes relying on black too much?

I admit that black is a slimming color, but you can get the same effect from the right foundation (Read "Bottom's Up") . It’s also a popular business attire color but so is grey, navy blue and depending on the industry brown.. What keeps us from relying on all black?

I look at my closet; and I see that as I’ve grown up and grown more confident in myself I have more color. Yes, I have the basic black staples, black dress, black pants, black business suit, etc. However I’ve phased out of wearing all or mostly black and infused my closet with color.

I like the way bright colors bring out my skin tone, make my eyes brighten up and just has an
amazing ability to illuminate my mood. There’s nothing wrong with black, but perhaps maybe it’s time to infuse your closet with some color…

My colorful picks:

(from l to r): Ariana Top- Benina and Lu $32, Missphit Twill Strap Jacket in Yellow $56, Alice Trixie , Ariello Kimono Tunic $295 available at Salon Z, Orange Leather Strap Dress - Belle Avenue $42.99.

I, too, am trying to shy away from black -- but it seems like black & white with splash of color is the style this season. Personally I love it - because I have an overabundance of black shoes, purses, and accessories, so putting outfits together is failyr easy. But yeah, I definitely need to be careful of "hiding" behind black all the time.

Congrats, fellow J.D. *cheers*
